The Disability Options Network Physical Activity Program is a free of cost service, dedicated to promoting health and wellness throughout the lifespan. Beginning in October of 2011 Disability Options Network opened the doors to an accessible fitness center located within our New Castle, PA office.

The main focus of the Physical Activity Program is to provide an increase in opportunities for recreation, fitness, and activities of daily living, aquatics, and sport specific skills for individuals with disabilities residing in our servicing communities.  Participants for the program are enlisted from the Disability Options Network (DON) Center for Independent Living which serves individuals residing in Western Pennsylvania counties.

DON is a cross disability organization providing services for all individuals with disabilities regardless of ability or function. Specific programming and individual goals are developed during the pre-assessment period based on information received in the form of fitness assessments, surveys, doctor clearances, and questionnaires.  Program content is developed based on an individual’s specific abilities, interests, goals, and present level of performance. Individual results are assessed weekly determining gains in the following program areas; strength, flexibility, range of motion, and endurance.

Overall the Disability Options Network Physical Activity Program is working to increase recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities in order to increase activity, combat secondary conditions, and improve overall health and wellness throughout the population.
